If you’ve been reading the site a while, you might notice that I link out quite often and that I have ads in the sidebar. Here, I’ll clarify a few things about them:
Advertising
All adverts on this site are declared. That means all the ads in the sidebar are, well, ads, and that any affiliate text or image links will be marked with (aff) or (affiliate link). I’m not trying to scam anyone here and I won’t make any money off your purchases without telling you.
If I join an affiliate scheme, I do so because I use the item I’m advertising regularly, either on this site or at work, I think it’s good and I recommend it to you. I make a bit of money out of these ads, but they largely only cover my hosting costs, renewal of domains and to treat myself to a takeaway now and then. The Google ads, I can’t vouch for in the same way, but I do frequently block irrelevant ads.
Essentially, if you see an affiliate ad or link on my site, you can be sure that I actually recommend it and use it for clients.
Links
With regard to links, these are freely given, either because they’re relevant to the post, the thing I’m linking to inspired the article in question or I just feel like it. Can you get a link from me for yourself or a client? Maybe, but I won’t do it for money. I do not accept paid links here, so don’t even bother asking if I will add an anchor text link to a post in exchange for some cash. If you’ve got something you think I might be interested in sharing, get in touch either here or through Twitter and I’ll take a look.
Reviews
Again, the reviews I post here are done so freely. I might review something I am affiliated with, but that will be declared.
I am not opposed to sponsored reviews, but these will not be incentivised by money. If you want me to review your tool, reach out, give me some free access so I can properly test it and I’ll see if I want to review it. I will be constructive but honest – if your tool sucks, don’t expect a glowing review, even if you do give me free access. That’s the risk you take.
Guest Posts
Guest posts are not currently accepted here so please don’t ask unless I know you personally. I tried it once but frankly, the quality of what I was sent was so consistently poor that I decided that I just don’t have the time to sift through it all to find something worth posting. I will, however, guest post on your blog if you would like me to – I promise to provide an article of the same kind of quality you see here and I won’t ask for spammy anchor text links.
